My mobile stays on silent at all times bar the alarm function. I read e-mails, text messages and reply to phone calls in my own time. My phones flashes to let me know if I have a message or missed a call and is looked at every few minutes if I'm awake, if I'm not, tough.

I work nights so almost every call or message during the day would disturb me and a message saying 'I'm bored, wanna meet for a coffee?' is not conducive to a good sleep.

Though I am intrigued by what this 'serious shit' is your friend wants to talk to you about.

Please tell me he wasn't going to drop the kids off at the pool and ended up putting a large brick in the wall. :(

I actually replied before posting here, he sent me a message & a call, seemlingly less than a minute apart that woke me up. having adrenaline while getting interrupted from sleep is weird, and that messed me up bad.

I feel I exaggerated that "serious shit" a bit, I was relaying his words.

Thankfully it was nothing major, it was a case of flipping a "hidden switch" in a personal issue, he tends to flare up occasionally, and overreacted this time.

He was overreacting because he couldn't solve it, I managed to solve it quickly over the phone though, although I was only running on adrenaline and the remains of my sleep, I have no idea exactly what I did, but I remember it being some personal issue of sorts. He called me less than a minute after the text, looking at the times now.

Lol. If he does it again then think about giving him his own profile on your phone (ie a silent one). :) Glad it wasn't something actually serious but maybe the other guy needs to think about what actually is serious and what can wait till a more appropriate time.

Sounds like you've drifted a little (no fault of your own, it just happens. Life gets in the way and something has to give) and he wants someone to talk to or using this as a pretext to get back in touch. Take him out for a beer (or several) or what you both like to do and catch up on events. Sometimes it's good to dust off some old cobwebs and have a good old chin wag.

Try having friends many time zones away. Got a random call at 3am once from one of those guys, and because of that I got kicked out of my girlfriends bedroom to go sleep on the couch lol.

One time I ate some really really really spicy chicken wings. They were so spicy that they were free if you could eat them which I did. Then I had to piss. Being smart I washed my hands before I went. However, that was not sufficient. something about burning down there ensued.
